God doesn't move us by telling us the facts. He moves us by pains and contradictions. He's given me a lack of understanding: not answers, but questions. An invitation to marvel.

Blind to Change, Even as It Stares Us in the Face

"The audience failed to notice entire stories disappearing from buildings, or the fact that one poor chicken in a field of dancing cartoon hens had suddenly exploded. [...] The reality is that you are only accurately representing the state of one or a few objects at any given moment. As for the rest of our visual experience, it has been aptly called 'a grand illusion'. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the movie called You."

Fascinating... in a scary kind of way.

I am chaos.

I am the substance
from which your artists
and scientists
build rhythms.

I am the spirit
with which your children
and clowns
laugh
in happy anarchy.

I am chaos.

I am alive,
and I tell you that
you are free.

Craft by lft

An AVR ATmega88 microcontroller (20 MHz, 1KB RAM, 8.5KB ROM) is hooked up directly to a monitor's VGA port and generates the VGA signal (plus a line signal for audio) in software, in (hard!) real time. Plasma, star fields and twisted linear algebra ensue, set to a chip-tune.

This is so awesome it almost hurts. As long as there are brilliant, creative, I'll-just-sit-down-and-make-the-impossible-possible individuals like lft, all hope for mankind is not lost.

Death of a MacBook hard disk. My MacBook hard disk, to be precise. Freude, schöner Götterfunken, Tochter aus Elysium!

And it seems that some people never learn... My last backup was two months ago.

Reality is that which can be catalogued and measured, to be spooned out in rational doses to the common people.

The most real things in the world are those that we cannot know through the senses. Do you feel the angst of living a life you never wanted through any of your five senses? No, yet the despair remains.

You tear apart the rattle of a baby to see what lies inside to make such noise, but the tiny balls there can not explain or illustrate the fear of a hostile world, that makes that baby clutch and shake that rattle so.

[kyrah's book recommendation of the month]
Fitter, happier,
more productive,
comfortable,
not drinking too much,
regular exercise at the gym
(3 days a week),
getting on better with your associate employeee contemporaries,
at ease,
eating well
(no more microwave dinners and saturated fats),
a patient better driver,
a safer car
(baby smiling in back seat),
sleeping well
(no bad dreams),
no paranoia,
careful to all animals
(never washing spiders down the plughole),
keep in contact with old friends
(enjoy a drink now and then),
will frequently check credit at
(moral) bank
(hole in the wall),
favors for favors,
fond but not in love,
charity standing orders,
on Sundays ring road supermarket
(no killing moths or putting boiling water on the ants),
car wash
(also on Sundays),
no longer afraid of the dark
or midday shadows
nothing so ridiculously teenage and desparate,
nothing so childish,
at a better pace,
slower and more calculated,
no chance of escape,
now self-employed,
concerned (but powerless),
an empowered and informed member of society
(pragmatism not idealism),
will not cry in public,
less chance of illness,
tires that grip in the wet
(shot of baby strapped in back seat),
a good memory,
still cries at a good film,
still kisses with saliva,
no longer empty and frantic
like a cat
tied to a stick
that's driven into
frozen winter shit
(the ability to laugh at weakness),
calm,
fitter,
healthier
and more productive
a pig
in a cage
on antibiotics.

It was through the work of this man that I first became interested in the questions of life and consciousness. He was, and remains, one of my Heroes.

Thank you for telling me the truth, Arthur. Wherever you are, I hope you will dream.

Amazing HDR Images found at NFG
All this talking all the time,

And the air fills up, up, up,
until there's nothing left to breathe.

And you think
you feel most everything,

And we know that our hearts are just
made out of strings to be pulled.

And you think
you've figured out everything,

But we know that our minds are just made out of strings to be pulled.

Strings to be pulled.
